WORLD FALCONRY DAY 2014

list of the events organized in the world

In this unique day for all the falconers in the World, we like to remember a sentence of the late Dr. Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, very well know falconer around Europe in XX Century:

Fellow Falconers, when next you set out at dawn in search of quarry, with Hawk on fist, anticipation making you feel as if it were the for the first time, while indeed it could be your last, contain your excitement and reflect: you are but a link in a chain of Falconers that stretches back to prehistory (and forward – who knows?)

Place to be confirmed

We will be giving a free flying exhibition in an open field with our 17 year old tiercel Harris Hawk Chucky. It will basically consist of the falconer giving a small lecture about the ancient history of falconry in general and how he got involved and auto didactically learned the art after many years of constant trials and errors. The lecture will be followed by the flying exhibition of the hawk as he's flown to the bird lure from one tall T-perch to another which will strategically be placed in the middle of the field in front of the spectators. Emphasis will be made on presenting falconry as a sustainable hunting art that promotes the conservation of raptors, their prey species and the habitat in which they live. We will also use the dummy rabbit which will be pulled by our little machine right through poles and trees to simulate real hunting as much as possible. The exhibition will be narrated by one of our raptor biologists who will be highlighting all the predatory qualities of the hawk as well the different strategies it uses to capture it's prey.
